Zimbra Desktop : How to recover your local folder after crash (Win 10)

zimbra desktop

It’s been a rough morning when I got called by one of the employees asking me about his Zimbra desktop apps error. I’ve been deep diving the internet, searching how to solve this kind of problem and finally, I have been able to restore to its current state.

Do Not Uninstall you Zimbra Desktop

Yes, do not ever, ever delete or even uninstall the apps on the laptop/pc you’ve been dealing with. Because all the data still there. Now, close you Zimbra desktop apps and now backup all of this folder located on :

C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\Zimbra
C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\zimbra-desktop

place it to secure/temporary location (you can copy to another partition in the same system).

Delete the backed up folder inside AppData

Now, you can delete 2 folders you have already backup to a different location. This is a must because it will reset Zimbra desktop config back to default (back to its state when your first time installing it).

Reconfigure your ZDesktop and Restore local folder

Now, just set your name, email address and password and let the zdesktop load to it email interface then close the apps

Copy this 2 folder :

back to this folder

C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\Zimbra

and Voila!!! all the email in the local folder back like it was before the crash.
